The pervasive presence of polystyrene microplastics in aquatic environments poses a significant threat to the health of aquatic organisms and ecosystems. This study explores the toxicological impacts of polystyrene microplastics on aquatic organisms, specifically on Channa punctatus. Chemically, heavy metals and persistent organic pollutants, which have the ability to bioaccumulate and biomagnify within the food web, are transported by microplastics. The biological effects of microplastic exposure include oxidative stress, inflammatory reactions, and endocrine disruption, which impair aquatic creature's ability to grow, reproduce, and survive. The experiment performed aims to investigate the mechanisms by which microplastic exert harmful effects, including significant differences in the parameters like SOD & Catalase, Necrosis & Vacuolization in the brain's tissue and neurotoxic & physical behavioural responses are seen.

Abstract: Psychotic disorders are serious, chronic, multi-dimensional and devastating brain disease. Among patients suffering from psychotic disorders, compliance determines the effectiveness of treatment. Negative attitude towards antipsychotics is a common cause of non compliance, which is a multifaceted problem for patient, family, society and physician. In order to improve drug compliance it is important to know the crucial factors responsible for drug non compliance. Objective: The objective of this study was to assess the prevalence and factors leading to drug non compliance among patients suffering with psychotic mental disorders. Methods: A cross sectional study was carried out in the outpatient psychiatric department of an Indian tertiary care hospital over a period of 4 weeks. Purposive sampling was done to select the samples. Patients aged 20 years and above who presented with psychotic disorders as diagnosed by the International Classification of Diseases (ICD)-10, receiving psychotropic medicine for more than 3 months were included. Medication adherence was assessed using Morisky Medication Adherence Scale 08 (MMAS-08) and factors causing drug non compliance using a self structured questionnaire. SPSS version 23 was used to analyze the data, Chi square test was performed to associate the selected socio-demographic variables and factors affecting non compliance. Result: Out of 241 participants, 142 (58.9%) were non-adherent to their drugs. Most common factors affecting non compliance were 'waiting time is more', ' hospital is far away from home', 'expensive to visit the hospital', 'inability to attend hospital alone', 'afraid of drug dependence' and 'forgetting to take medicines'. Association was found between age, gender, co-morbidities and family history of mental illness with factors affecting non compliance. Conclusion: The highlights of this study will help in identifying the factors which lead to medication non- compliance, which will enable us to become more aware of problems faced by patients in maintaining a compliant behavior. Hence, indicating the need to provide adequate information about illness and medications prescribed to challenge their dysfunctional beliefs and cognitive remediation for tackling forgetfulness as a reason for non compliance.

As the aging process occurs correspondingly decline of cognitive function also occurs. This affects the person's quality of life. In old age there are many factors that affect the quality of life such as physical, intellectual, social, and environmental factors, and cognitive impairment is one of the main factors. Considering the susceptibility of the elderly people and the limited studies on cognitive function and quality of life among elderly people living in residential care homes in India lead to the need of this study. This study aims to explore the correlation between cognitive function and quality of life among elderly people living in residential care homes, furthermore, exploring this relationship can help in identifying potential areas of support and intervention to improve the overall well-being of elderly people. A convenient sampling was used in this study. The data were collected offline using Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) and WHOQOL-BREF scale. There was a positive correlation (p < 0.05) between MoCA scale scoring and WHOQOL-BREF scoring. This makes it clear that cognitive function is significantly and directly related to quality of life of elderly people living in residential care homes.

This study aims to Understand the Portrayal of Mental Illness in Popular Cinemas, specifically Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), in popular cinema through a psychological lens, employing Labovian and Character Analysis techniques. Focusing on the films "Rain Man" and "My Name Is Khan," the research aims to scrutinise prevalent depictions of mental health in cinema and discern any shifts in these portrayals over recent years. While "Rain Man" explores the complexities of an unconventional brotherly relationship, with Raymond as an autistic savant, "My Name Is Khan" intertwines a love story with social and political commentary on post-9/11 discrimination, featuring Rizwan Khan navigating the world with Asperger's syndrome. The analysis of "My Name Is Khan" reveals a mixed portrayal of Asperger's syndrome, with moments of accurate depiction and instances where the condition seems oversimplified. Despite potential misconceptions, the film effectively uses its narrative to shed light on societal prejudices, discrimination, and the quest for acceptance. The study emphasizes that while cinematic portrayals may not always align with clinical accuracy, they contribute to creating awareness and challenging societal perceptions about mental illnesses. The emotional intensity and impactful events in the film serve as a means to engage and educate the audience about the human experience and societal prejudices associated with mental health conditions. The study underscores the role of media in shaping public perceptions and influencing discussions surrounding mental health.

Rabindranath Tagore's "The Homecoming" is a poignant exploration of the psychological dynamics between family members, particularly focusing on the troubled adolescent protagonist, Phatik Chakravorti. This research article employs psychoanalytical theory to delve into the underlying psychological forces that shape the characters and drive the narrative. By analyzing Phatik's actions and emotions through the lens of Freudian theory, this study uncovers the deep-seated anxieties and unconscious desires that influence his behavior. The analysis also considers the familial relationships and societal expectations that contribute to Phatik's inner turmoil. Through this lens, Tagore's story is revealed as a complex depiction of the struggle for identity and belonging within the constraints of a rigid social structure. The psychoanalytical approach not only provides a deeper understanding of Phatik's character but also highlights the broader themes of alienation, guilt, and the search for self-acceptance. This study aims to offer a comprehensive interpretation of "The Home-Coming" that enriches the reader's appreciation of Tagore's nuanced portrayal of human psychology.

This study aimed on developing a low-cost ankle continuous passive motion (CPM) machine and to check the effectiveness of the CPM in increasing the passive range of motion (PROM) of ankle dorsiflexion in stroke patients of sub-acute phase. A quasi-experimental study was conducted. Stroke patients in sub-acute phase who are having inadequate PROM of ankle dorsiflexion was selected as the participant of the study. The patients were given intervention using the newly developed low cost ankle CPM. The duration of the study lasted upto 2 weeks (5 sessions per week; total 10 sessions per participant). Each session remained for 20 minutes. Goniometry was used as an evaluation tool and collected the pretest and posttest data. The data were subjected to statistical analysis using the Statistical Package For The Social Sciences (SPSS) 26 ver. The calculations were carried out using the Paired-t test. The significant value or 'p' value was obtained and it was proved that there is a significant improvement in the posttest scores of PROM of ankle dorsiflexion when compared to the pretest scores. The study concludes that the PROM of ankle dorsiflexion can be improved using the newly developed, low-cost ankle continuous passive motion machine (CPM).
