 Abstract

With the huge demand for high speed railways across the world, major emphasis is laid on safety and a reduction in the journey time. There is much talk about high speed trains plying at over 200 km/h in certain sectors of India. The first of such sectors being talked about is the Mumbai-Ahmedabad corridor, which would drastically slash the journey time by around 5 hours. This leads to huge quasi-static and dynamic loads on the track, which further accelerates the process of the formation of fines, ballast degradation (through abrasion, attrition and grain fracturing) and a potential accumulation of excess pore water pressure and high vertical deformations in the subgrade. Furthermore, this pumping action generated leads to an infiltration of fines into the subgrade. Under poor conditions of drainage and workmanship, severe cases of fouling occur where the sleepers are surrounded by mud that retains a pool of water around them. To prevent such formation of mud holes in the soil, the implementation of proper drainage is essential to prevent stagnation of water at the ends of the sleeper. This also contributes to the stability of the track substructure by ensuring separation of the fine subgrade soil underneath with the coarse ballast above. Certain advances have been made in the field of mud hole management. In their manual, A.R.T.C. Ltd. (2001, 2013) pointed out the stagnation of water due to the lack of drainage being the major contributor to mud hole formation. Various methodologies for the modelling of the ballast and subgrade layer have been suggested. Kruse and Popp (2003) suggested the use of the Molecular Dynamics method to model the granular material, where every single stone of the ballast is taken into account along with calculation of the contact forces from the overlap areas of particle geometries. Modelling of resilient rubber pads with future applications to a reduction in the ballast settlements have been performed by Knothe et al. (2003)

 Abstract

Strengthening techniques of reinforced concrete (RC) beams are used to meet the current design requirements, serious errors made in design calculations, and poor construction practices. CFRP has significantly improved the flexural capacity of strengthened beams especially when grooving technique has been employed. This project discusses the result of an experimental investigation conducted on CFRP (Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymer). The tests demonstrate that this innovation with end self-locking can overcome the main shortcomings in reinforced concrete beams strengthened by externally-bonded CFRP. It is by means of avoiding end debonding and restraining the later development of intermediate crack debonding. This investigation consists of conventional RC beam, CFRP wrap RC beam and CFRP wrap by end locking RC beam and investigate the ultimate flextural strength, failure modes of beam and deflection of beams. It is capable of simulating the overall responses of the complicated structural system containing debonding process, failure mode and ultimate strength.

 Abstract

Nanotechnology is the understanding and control of matter at dimensions between 1 and 100 nanometres. Matter at this scale exhibits unique characteristics. Nanotechnology has changed the world of engineering and science to the cores which lead to the enormous development over the past two decades in certain areas such as medical, mechanical and space fields. Due to the novel applications in nanotechnology, new subjects have been evolved for e.g. nanomedicine and nanotoxicology, which gave rise to important technical and economic advancement. They have widely impacted and almost covered the aspects of society such as health, environment, energy etc. In the scope of environment, nanotechnologies can bring up the changes in sensing, remediation, emission reduction, membrane separations, coating, radioactive waste containment, etc. In this review paper, we particularly give an introduction on nanorobots and its future scope across the various subjects. We analyse the future opportunities and challenges of this nanorobots. In most of the future practice, nanorobots can be adapted in medical field to cure major chronic diseases. Therefore, nanorobots are playing a major role in present day and as well keeping potential in the future days.

 Abstract

Indian Agriculture has undergone significant changes in its cropping pattern and Technology know how over time.Rapeseed-mustard is important oilseed crop world over and India is a very prominent producer. It has multipurpose uses. Besides providing edible oil for human consumption, it is used as animal feed and biodiesel. India ranks third after China and Canada in terms of area coverage (18.93 percent) and production (11.6 percent). The average yield of the crop is one-third less in India (1128 kg/ha) as compared to the world average (1840 kg/ha) while Germany and France have three times higher productivity compared to India. A large number of factors are responsible for very low yield rates in the country, which include technological and institutional. Lack of adequate and proper irrigation is the critical factor amongst others.

 Abstract

AIM: the aim of the study is to find out the effectiveness between core stabilization vs Mc kenzie exercises in the treatment of patients with mechanical low back pain METHOD: 30 subjects with mechanical low back pain were selected between the age group of 20 to 40 years were randomly assigned into two groups. Group A was treated with Core muscle strengthening exercise and Group B was treated with Mc kenzie exercise for mechanical low back pain patients.VAS, The revised oswetry questionnaire were used as measuring tool, before and after treatment were recorded for further analysis. RESULTS: Data analyzed and result indicates that Core muscle strengthening exercise has improved back pain and disability than in Mc kenzie exercises. CONCLUSION: The results present here are important as they demonstrate that lumbar stabilization exercise program are aimed at improving pain, range of motion and functional disability From the result, Study can be concluded that Core stabilization exercise has significantly improve pain and disability than Mc kenzie exercise in subjects with Mechanical low back pain.

 Abstract

Plant-parasitic nematodes have been reported to constitute serious impediments to crop production. Information on the occurrence and distribution of these pests in various irrigation sites in Katsina state is scanty. This study investigated the geographical distribution and population density of nematodes associated with some irrigation sites in the state. Ten irrigation sites across the state were surveyed in consultation with the Department of Irrigation in the Ministry of Agriculture and natural Resources, Katsina State. Five composite soil samples were taken at different crop fields in each of the irrigation sites. Extraction of nematodes from the samples was done using modified sieving and decanting techniques as described by Coyne et al. Analysis of the samples revealed 23 genera of plant parasitic nematodes. The most prominent nematodes found in all the samples collected from the irrigation sites were: Rotylenchus, Tylenchus, Pratylenchus, Scutellonema, Aphelenchus, Aphelenchoides, Meloidogyne, Hoplolaimus, and paratylenchus. While Telotylenchus, Belonolaimus, Ditylenchus, Heterodera, Longidorus, and Criconemoides occurred in very low numbers. The study indicated a widespread distribution of economically important plant-parasitic nematodes in the irrigation sites. The major nematodes identified in this study portend serious implications on profitable production of crop in the irrigation sites, because these nematodes are known to be damaging to crops. Enlightenment programme for the farmers in the irrigation sites should therefore be embarked upon by the proper agencies to inform them of the presence of plant-parasitic nematodes in their crop fields and the implications. Keywords: Occurrence, Distribution, Plant-Parasitic Nematodes, Irrigation Sites, Katsina State.
