This study explores the significance of oral traditions and storytelling in Zora Neale Hurston's Their Eyes Were Watching God, a seminal work in African-Caribbean literature. The novel, which was published in 1937, reflects Hurston's anthropological background and her deep engagement with African-American folklore and culture, rooted in the African-Caribbean diaspora. Oral tradition in the novel serves as a powerful tool for preserving history, asserting identity and fostering community. Through the narrative structure of the novel and its focus on Janie Crawford's journey, Hurston intertwines storytelling with themes of self-discovery, love, and empowerment. The novel is narrated through a series of flashbacks, where Janie recounts her life story to her friend Pheoby, creating a frame narrative that mirrors African oral storytelling traditions. This study emphasizes the importance of the spoken word, examining how Hurston employs dialogue, dialect, and oral folklore to construct an authentic representation of African-Caribbean cultural practices. The research highlights how Hurston's use of oral narrative techniques allows for the exploration of African-Caribbean traditions and values, such as respect for elders, the significance of communal bonds, and the role of myth and folklore in shaping personal and collective identities. Additionally, the study investigates the role of the folk tale and the trickster figure in Hurston's storytelling, which are central motifs in African-Caribbean oral traditions. It also discusses the subversive power of oral stories, as they provide a space for marginalized voices to challenge dominant narratives, particularly those of patriarchy and colonialism. The storytelling in Their Eyes Were Watching God is presented as a form of resistance, as it empowers Janie to assert control over her own life story and to reclaim her voice from the constraints of societal expectations. In conclusion, this study argues that Hurston's novel is a dynamic representation of oral traditions, using storytelling as a mechanism for cultural preservation, empowerment, and resistance. The blending of literary and oral forms within Their Eyes Were Watching God allows Hurston to both honor and challenge the legacy of African-Caribbean oral traditions, offering a powerful narrative of self-determination and cultural continuity.

This new design method for Finite Impulse Response (FIR) filters focuses on optimizing the "critical path," which is the part of the filter where the signal takes the longest time to travel. By reducing this delay, the filter can process signals faster and more efficiently. This makes the filter work quicker, which is important in systems where speed matters. The optimization also helps reduce the amount of power the filter uses, making it perfect for applications that need to save energy, such as in mobile devices or other low-power systems.

Ecocriticism, a critical approach that explores the relationship between literature and the natural environment, provides a rich framework for understanding how human interactions with the environment are represented in literature. In Amitav Ghosh's The Hungry Tide, ecocriticism offers valuable insights into the complex interplay between human societies, nature and ecological change. Set in the Sundarbans, a vast coastal region in the Bay of Bengal, Ghosh's novel intricately weaves together themes of environmental degradation, cultural identity and the impact of colonialism on both the landscape and its inhabitants. Through the experiences of its central characters, including Piya, a marine biologist and Kanai, a translator, The Hungry Tide emphasizes the vulnerability of the natural world and the need for sustainable coexistence with it. The novel presents the Sundarbans as a space marked by both beauty and danger, highlighting the effects of climate change and human intervention. Ghosh paints a vivid picture of the region's mangrove forests, rivers, and wildlife, all of which are at the mercy of political, economic, and ecological forces. Through the lens of ecocriticism, the novel critiques the environmental degradation brought about by human exploitation, such as the destruction of mangroves for economic gain and the consequences of governmental policies that fail to protect vulnerable ecosystems. At the same time, the novel also portrays the deep spiritual and cultural connections that the local communities have with the land, underscoring how their lives are intertwined with the environment. The Hungry Tide explores the concept of 'ecological imperialism,' where colonial powers imposed systems that disregarded local ecological knowledge, causing long-term environmental damage. Ghosh also highlights the role of ecological resilience in the face of disaster, as the novel's characters navigate both environmental and personal challenges. By weaving together historical, cultural, and ecological narratives, Ghosh's work invites readers to reconsider the consequences of human actions on the natural world and the urgent need for sustainable practices that respect the interconnectedness of all life forms. Through its depiction of the Sundarbans and its inhabitants, The Hungry Tide emerges as a compelling example of how literature can address ecological concerns and engage with the environmental challenges of the modern world. Ecocriticism, when applied to this novel, not only deepens our understanding of the human-nature relationship but also calls for a greater awareness of the environmental crises facing the world today.

This study investigates the feasibility of utilizing waste ceramic tiles as partial replacement for coarse aggregate in concrete paver blocks. With the increasing demand for construction materials and growing concerns about environmental sustainability, finding alternative uses for waste materials has become imperative. Ceramic tile waste from manufacturing units and demolition sites represents a significant portion of construction waste that typically ends in landfills. This research evaluated the performance of concrete paver blocks with varying percentages (0%, 10%, 20%, 30%, 40%, and 50%) of coarse aggregate replacement with waste tile chips. Comprehensive testing was conducted on compressive strength, water absorption, abrasion resistance, and flexural strength of the specimens over curing periods of 7, 14, and 28 days. Results indicated that paver blocks with 30% replacement of coarse aggregate with waste tile chips demonstrated optimal mechanical properties, with compressive strength values comparable to conventional paver blocks. The water absorption percentage remained within acceptable limits established by relevant standards. This study suggests that incorporating waste tile chips as partial replacement for coarse aggregate in paver blocks is not only technically viable but also environmentally beneficial, supporting waste reduction and resource conservation goals.

Abstract During the last few decades, the environment has posed a significant threat to human society and the planet. The extensive misuse of natural resources has brought humanity to the brink of ecological disaster. Rainforests are being cut down, fossil fuel reserves are rapidly depleting, seasonal cycles are disrupted, ecological catastrophes occur frequently and our environment is increasingly under threat. Under these dire circumstances, a new approach to reading nature writing emerged in the last decade of the 20th century, known as eco criticism. This worldwide movement arose in response to humanity's anthropocentric attitude of dominating nature. Eco criticism is an interdisciplinary framework that examines the relationship between literature, culture and the environment, focusing on how texts engage with ecological concerns. It explores the ways in which literary works reflect, critique, and influence human perceptions of nature and environmental challenges. Climate change, as one of the most pressing global challenges, has significant environmental, social and psychological implications. In the context of climate change, ecocriticism provides valuable insights into the cultural and psychological dimensions of environmental crises and their representation in literature. Climate change increasingly impacts mental health. Literary works addressing climate change often grapple with themes such as eco-anxiety, climate grief and the ethical dilemmas of environmental stewardship. Through these narratives, authors invite readers to confront the complexities of ecological degradation and humanity's role in addressing it. This paper examines these themes through Jenny Offill's novel Weather, a concise yet profound exploration of human psychology in the face of environmental crisis. Offill's fragmented narrative style mirrors the disjointed and overwhelming nature of contemporary climate concerns, offering a deeply personal lens into the protagonist's growing anxiety as she navigates daily life amidst looming ecological uncertainty. The novel captures the subtleties of solastalgia--the distress caused by environmental change--and its ripple effects on relationships, work, and identity. Offill's protagonist reflects the struggles of many who feel paralyzed by the scale of the climate crisis while grappling with the responsibility to act. The narrative also touches on the psychological burden of preparing for an uncertain future, portraying mental health as an integral yet often overlooked aspect of climate change discourse. Through Weather, Offill provides a nuanced depiction of how individuals internalize global issues, blending humour, insight, and vulnerability. The novel underscores the importance of addressing mental health in the broader conversation about climate resilience and adaptation. This study highlights how literature can provide a space for empathy, understanding and collective reflection, empowering readers to confront both the external and internal challenges posed by climate change.
